Verrandra Gautama

She's a Balinese, and I don't know why but, I have in mind the word "exotic" when it comes to her.

6

These are the girls from SMA 6, they were all so young and fun, I was happy to photograph them, and I felt pretty satisfied for these results, it's new to me in the tone aspect. Look at them, I want you to feel happy and glad when you look at these, it's just about happiness, friendship, fun and laughs. We made this creation in the field in GBK Senayan, we had to pay for renting the field an hour, and these girls paid it together. I felt that they were dedicated about that. Oh ya you should know, there's this girl named Syifa she's the one on the second photo, she's in the left first box of that photo, she helped me a lot to arrange the shoot, and she was great to cooperated with. And, the theme was blue jeans, and it turned out satisfying for me I don't know I just love it, I believe in principle, if the models were happy, so will the results be... So will the audiences who view may feel... I LOVE THESE!

Giskhe Ariana Makhas

This is Giskhe, I call her Keke. We've been friends since I was in the first year of senior high school, she is the friend of my friend and we got to know each other through years. We didn't meet lots of times, but I think we share good friendship, she's a beautiful young girl, who's heart is kind and nice. I invited my photographer friend too @Satrioha to share this experience, I like his photography and he shares the same camera as me. This was taken in Plaza Senayan, we had to hide to take this shoot, because a few minutes before this, the security guard came to us to ask if we have a permission already or not? We said no, he said, we had to go to the 9th floor of one of the building there, so we went there, but the guy in that 9th floor, hm, I hardly like him, he was a young  man, and we talked to him, but he said he can't help if we are going to do the shoot for personal reason, and he said, he fears that the Plaza Senayan if taken picture, will be taken in a wrong use like maybe the design being followed or such, I mean that's just ridiculous, Plaza Senayan has been there ever since I was a little child. What does that illusion worth to hold. I just didn't like it, because that reason is just strict and narrowed to me, we wanted to make a creation as a young generation, and that what he got to say. I love these shots, and she said she did too, so I just felt glad.

Happy Birthday My Grandmother...

This is my grandmother cemetery, my family and my grandfather came at the birthday of her. It's been a principle in my family, that, when someone of us died, how do you think it's appropriate not to visit them in the graveyard again? But it's not just about that, it's more than that, we appreciate someone we loved so much not just when they're alive, but also when they're resting in peace. I cried so much when I knew she passed away, I just met her a few hours before her passing, and she was seemed so happy, she smiled to me and laughed happily to see me. And you know what, there was a strange sign actually, the last time I met her in her house, she always in my life waved her hands whenever I was about to leave the house, a wave of goodbye, that day, when I was leaving I just looked at her, and asked permission to leave, she just smiled and nodded her head, not waving, it was strange for me to feel, but I didn't think it was the last I could see her face... Of course I didn't, and then I slept home, suddenly in AM I was being waken by my maid at home said that she just passed away. I was, I forgot how I reacted, but I remember how in a minute, I cried so long and sobbed, I really cried and I called her name... "Atok Mama..." that's how I called her all my life. I called her name again while I was sitting and couldn't hold my tears, I just cried in the chair for a while that AM. Then I went to her home, the ambulance was already there, and she was already showered and covered with white fabric, I laid myself back to the wall about to fall, and I cried again... I kept on crying that, I stopped, but then the other families came by to visit and they cried, so I cried again. And so on... You know, when she was alive, she was always... Always happy to see me, and I remember how I got good grades in highschool, I was 1 of the 3 best in class, for years, and she cried for that, she cried and thanked me, I was confused in my heart, why did she thank me? I thought maybe she felt so proud, but I didn't ask her of course. And it's just, she took care of me when I was a little child, much more time she did spent to take care of me, but of course I was little, and well, I felt of her not just as my grandmother, but also she is like one of my mother you know, so it's just filling my eyes, whenever I remember her, I wanted to cry, even I was about to cry writing this, but maybe I grew up enough so the tears didn't fall as usual. And I'm happy, sometimes after she passed away, she would visit in my dream, more than once, we met in my dream, and we hugged each other in tears... And she's so beautiful in my dreams, she shines bright, and appears so much younger...

Eyang Daddy, Prof. Karnen Garna Baratawidjaja

It was quite a night, he was playing the piano. And he didn't play it in a short time, he actually played it for a quite long minutes. I supposed he was in need of a rest that moment, he's above 80 yet still busy as a Professor of allergy, he always still want to learn and create something. These images, I like, because it is very deep to me. The expression of an old man, it's always full of experiences, and this, he may appeared to be tired, but his passion and spirit were always stronger than his body, if you heard of his life's story, it was painful and tough, yet he gained great success as a Professor. He's an admirer of beauty, he likes to paint, likes to arrange flowers, likes to play music, he likes to dance, other than that, he likes to study, always like to. He said to me once "Kalau eyang ada waktu eyang mau belajar, tapi gak bisa, gak ada waktu.". In that words he meant, study as in learning, learning skills like dancing, exploration of creativity, but his disciplinary as an active Professor, still takes his time. But, he doesn't feel bad about it, it's his happiness, he wanted to share the rest of his life for the good of others. He's a very great Professor Dr. Karnen Garna Baratawidjaja, some of my friends came to his clinic in Kebayoran for an allergy medical treatment, and my friends said that, his treatment cured the allergy very soon, sooner than the other doctors they've met. I was rather amazed, Eyang Daddy is the father of my mother.

Asa Lia

So, another student in Om Darwis school, who was elder than me, held this photo shoot with a real model named Mba Sasa. I just thought to join to enrich my experiences, so I joined, turned out, Mba Sasa was a nice person as a model, she didn't act so much like a model who feels superior of herself, she was quite humble. This was taken in Kota Tua, the first one, me along the other photographers around her, captured her in a sofa, a broken old blue sofa, I had a chance to direct her to make some moves, but frankly, this one is which like the best of all the shots I made, it's soulful to me, like someone who's looking up for a hope. And that light came from the sun, who came through the broken roof, so it was nice right. And then the second one, she was sitting there, I'm not sure how to capture her at this part, but I just did, and tried to aim from a zoomed-out angle, and I like it. I showed this to Mba Sasa, and she said she like it too :D It always feels good when the photos we like, also being liked by the models... And she even put it on her BBM display for some time, doesn't mean to show off anything, but I just feel appreciated and quite success whenever a model of mine put it on the display. Well, tell me what you think about these two on the comments below, if you're so so kind :D

Darwis Triadi

This is Om Darwis and me, I really like him as a person and a teacher. He can deliver his understanding about photography to his student in a very relieving way, sometimes charismatic, the other time, is just make us feel like, always want to listen to what he has to say. He's interesting, and he is very-very kind, he'd help you and share his knowledge of photography, in a maximum way. He really want us to be developed in photography. And he also said that, "as a photographer we shouldn't be acting too exclusive, we have to help the other photographers too." guess that's a phenomena in our society, or maybe in the photographer's world. But yeah, you can see, his brotherhood feeling is strong, and he is very close with his mother. He also explained how essential "light" is in photography, how we put the souls in our photos, how we put the souls in our lights, and how we give much feelings to it. He's very deep about that. But what I also like about him is, his zodiac is the same with me, so we have the same kind of way in thinking. This was taken in 16 October 2012, by his assistant in the school, and this was the last day of my class to attend. Being on Om Darwis school, opened perspectives to me, but I already developed my photography ever since I was in Junior High School, and I attended Om Darwis school while in my college year. What I learned from this school is that, the techniques to become better and better, the experience to become richer, but I've got my own photography style before. There were many teachers in the photography school, Om Darwis doesn't teach every class, because there were another photographers too who contributed to teach their own photography aspects. But I only like Om Darwis class and teaching, his warm and friendly personality is way different from the other teachers, and that got me connected to him just soon. One day I came back to him, not a long time ago, in May 2013, just to ask for his opinions about my photos so far. He was very opened and he told me what I needed to know, he said my photos are interesting, and he showed me a little more ways on how to put the lights to give better effects, directly at that time. He was going to teach a class that night, and he said I could just join without paying, so I did, and hey. He's very nice isn't he? :D

Om Darwis told me that he liked these shots I made, because of the angle and the shape of the woman, were captured well. I always like the effect of hair swing, it's always amazing to me. And the fact that it's swing is beyond our control, gives it a natural sense of gravity. She was so pretty on this session, or maybe sexy, I thought to myself that she was a different woman when she dressed this way. Different as in, younger, and more eye catching, well of course it was a minimal type of clothes. Well, I don't mean to think inappropriate about her, but a sexiness is also a woman's beauty you know. Only physical, so, if you don't have a body like her, don't compare, it's no good, no use, everyone has their own beauty. Perhaps some are more beautiful than the most, but if you can appreciate yourself enough, and be happy, you will always be beautiful. The sexiest woman who isn't happy, won't be beautiful, just tempting for some men maybe, but it's only the body. And please remember that the true sense of beauty comes from your inner self and positive state. I tell this because I feel bad when girls have to feel jealous of the other girls bodies, and not thinking of themselves positively just because they decided to, compare.

Nawang Hanafi

Kak Nawang is how I call her, she's a senior colleague in my faculty, Javanese Literature major to be exact. I've seen her for a few semesters, seen her walked, seen her smiled, but only got the chance lately, to get to know her through a help from my major's friend Denisa, who knows her. She's a very kind lady, she's so kind. And she has a special aura and personality, she's deeply caring and loving, especially to the children unfortunate. She told me she would cry in her bed room for some time, just because she just met struggling little children in the street. She's very open hand, she'd help anyone who she thinks need her help, with a very sincere heart. As the matter of fact, she talked to me directly as soon as Denisa told her that I've been wanting to photograph her. And just like that, we got good connection and communication. I told her after this photo shoot, even though I just know her for a few weeks lately, that "I feel like you're my own big sister." she just asked "why?" I just said, "I just feel like it", and then I turned up the volume of the radio. Oh yeah, she's a real model actually, and she was very welcome for me to photograph her. She doesn't like me to give her compliments actually, she feels scared it's going to make her cocky,  yes, I know, a very humble lady.

I don't know who's her name, I photographed her in Om Darwis Triadi's class.
Om Darwis always have a practice session for us to experience, and we are allowed to photograph the model and to direct. But we barely got the model's name mentioned clearly.
At the first picture, I directed her to put her hands on her hips, so she did.
But she didn't smile at first, so I told her to, and there she was, looking happy.
At the second picture, I asked her "Could you show me your favorite pose?"
At the third picture, I forgot, I think I didn't ask her for this pose, she just posed that way when another student was photographing her, and I just thought to capture, she got a tattoo. :o

Robiyanto Sumohadiwidjojo

Roby is a friend of mine, who's with his girlfriend Monique always been the lovey-dovey. They were shy, I was shy too. So I just told them to, show their love. Some of you may asked why the girl isn't very showed? Well, I think, this is a personal statement, like, they're in a relationship right? So I meant to represent it this way, so you will be curious about the girl? How's she look like? But of what appeared, you can have a wonder curiously, and that, I meant to tell that she belongs to her boyfriend, that only her boyfriend shall have her looks completely.

Aji Saka & Aji Bayu

Saka and Bayu are two different twins in personality, I guess it is like that to every twins. But you see, how contrast are their differences in style, both of them adore fashion, but experience it differently, the shirt, the hair, and the accessories. Saka is the left one, Bayu is the right one. Saka is usually very calm, Bayu is usually  more talkative than Saka. Saka was born a few moments earlier than Bayu, they are my high school friends. I remember at the first year in high school, I wasn't yet able to differentiate them, but in years, they grew, and so I noticed.

My Grandfather

This is my grandfather, I couldn't describe, but he's almost the only one who I shared my stories to, ever since I was way younger. I don't have to speak, he would understand me immediately. I often ask him to go out for a movie, at night, or even mid-night. Yeah we went a lot, just the two of us, sometimes in Saturday night.

Sarah Gina Febriana, Safira Anjani, Dinda Syafira

Gina is the blue shirt one, Fira is the one with necklace, and Dinda you know which. From the three girls, I know Gina the most, and Gina introduced me to the other two. Gina is a sister of my friend, and, Gina has a big curiosity you know, she got big eyes too, she would ask things on and on when she wants to know it well. Fira, she's a girl who's not friendly in BBM, but much friendlier in real life. And then Dinda, she was still shy when she met me, I think it was because we didn't have enough time to know each other previously, and it was a sudden plan that she was asked to join the shoot, but I'm glad to photographed her, I think she's beautiful.

Mayanda Reynaldi Iriano

Aldy, he is my 6 years school mate, he is usually very-very annoying, he would make jokes to his friends, and mess around. But that makes him interesting at the same time, that's his personality, so he was being himself. I remember he told me once, that he's happy to make other people laugh, and happy if others laugh because of him, and he did that in the 6 years I know him, until now he still is. He's also a fashion follower, he's update with it. And he got some times when he and his brother had to design jerseys for the school's football's teams, for a few times, and I think they designed it great.

Asrul Sani Masri

Sani, I met him in college, he's a fashion follower. He always like to be different you know, he told me lot of times how anti-mainstream he is. So he ripped off his clothes his way, to make it different. And well, he's a Gemini, one of my good friend, he'd be there for his friends, to help or to wait, not just me but other friends of his too, that probably one reason that makes him easy-to-like. And he's very insensitive you know? I mean, when criticized he could not-mind it so much, he would take it calmly. But I broke his insensitivity, I criticized him a lot, lately he took it hardly, but it always fun to feel, when I can make him feel annoyed. I meant my critics in a good way thou, because I think everyone must get out of their comfort zone, and not to stay there for too long, so they can really build their buried potentials.

Sarah and Zahrina

They both are just very sweet, kind and adorable. This session was very memorable to me, because, they were new friends to me. We just know each other by BBM two weeks before this shoot. And we talked about random things during the shoots, it was warm, calm, and happy. I really like their friendly personalities, they are now studying in SMA 46, going to grade 12. They two are best-friends, and, they said that they're often mistakenly thought as twins, I don't know, some of my friends who saw this photos thought they're twins too. I guess, when you are really best friend with someone, your faces could become to look alike...
